Bulldogs Drop Game Two Of Series To Radford

RADFORD, Va. - In the second game of a three-game Big South Conference series the Highlanders of Radford defeated the UNC Asheville baseball team, 9-0, as the Bulldogs were held scoreless for the second consecutive game against RU.
The win for the Highlanders marks the 11th in a row against Asheville, with the Bulldogs last victory against Radford coming during the 2008 season.
The Bulldogs fall to .500 on the season at 12-12, with a 3-2 mark in conference play while Radford improves to 13-10 overall, and 2-0 in the Big South.
Catcher Ian Graham led all Bulldogs offensively in the game, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Starter Brian Connolly (2-2) was credited with the loss, allowing three runs on five hits in four innings of work.
Radford's Jeff Kemp posted a big day at the plate, going 2-for-5 with four runs batted in. Matt Hilsinger and Matt Mack each went 2-for-4 in the game, driving in two runs apiece. Tyler Costello got the start for the Highlanders and pitched a shutout over eight innings, giving up seven hits. Costello improves to 4-0 with the win.
The Highlanders got on the board in the bottom of the first, scoring on a Hillsinger sacrifice fly to right. Radford scored two more in the bottom of the fourth, plating two on a Mack home run. After four RU led 3-0.
In the bottom of the fifth the Highlanders posted four runs, highlighted by a Kemp two-RBI double to left center. Kemp had another two-RBI double in the bottom of the eighth to put RU up 9-0 heading into the ninth.
Game three of the series will start later today at 5:30 p.m., after being moved from Sunday due to inclement weather expected in the Radford area. Dean Roland will get the start for the Blue & White as they look to salvage the series with RU.
