Asheville Rally Falls Short At Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.  – After finding themselves down by five runs after the first inning the UNC Asheville baseball team mounted a furious comeback at Wake Forest on Tuesday afternoon, only to fall 9-8 to the Demon Deacons in non-conference action.

After a five-run fifth inning the Bulldogs had tied Wake at eight runs apiece, only to see Deacon Marc Williamson hit a solo home run to centerfield to break the tie. That would be the winning run as the Blue & White fell just short of upsetting the Demon Deacons.

With the loss Asheville drops to 6-3 on the year while Wake improves to 5-4. Matt Pirro was credited with the win with Michael Dimock getting the save for the Deacons. Dillon Tabar got the loss despite allowing only one run on three hits in the contest.

Billy Creighton was 2-for-5 at the plate with three runs batted in while Patrick Koontz went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI.

Evan Stephens posted three RBI for Wake going 2-for-4 while Carolos Lopez drove in two runs to help the Deacon cause.
