Women's Tennis to Have Home Opener on Sunday
02.05.2011 | Women's Tennis
Asheville opened the season last weekend with a hard-fought loss at Davidson, 4-3. Some injuries limited the Bulldogs to just five players in the match but Asheville still gave the Wildcats all they wanted.
The Bulldogs will play at Furman this afternoon before heading home to play the Eagles on Sunday. Admission is free for all tennis matches at the Crowne Plaza.
"We just need to get healthy," explained Asheville coach Lise Gregory. "We have a nice team back and if we can get a little more healthier we have a chance to have a good season."
The Bulldog women's team went 14-8 last season and came in fourth place in the Big South Conference with a 4-3 league mark.
Asheville returns four starters and seven letter-winners from last year's squad. Heading up the returnees are seniors Nicole and Stephanie Schon plus Britney Cloer. Also back is junior Devon Cavanaugh. Newcomer Zoe Hamel is expected to make a difference for the Bulldogs this season.
