Women's Tennis Preseason Pick to Finish in 7th Place
01.13.2011 | Women's Tennis
CHARLOTTE - The UNC Asheville women's tennis has been picked to finish in seventh place this year as the Big South Conference announced its preseason poll this week.
The Bulldog women's team went 14-8 last season and came in fourth place in the Big South Conference with a 4-3 league mark.
Asheville returns four starters and eight letter-winners from last year's squad. Bulldog coach Lise Gregory isn't putting much stock into the preseason poll.
"I've never worried too much about where any of my teams have been picked in a preseason poll," admitted Gregory. "It's just something to talk about before a season starts.
"We're excited about this year's club," added Gregory. "Our team has worked hard and will be ready to play once the season starts."
Defending conference champion Winthorp was selected first, followed by Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina. The vote was done by the league's coaches.
The Bulldogs open the 2011 season at Southern Conference power Davidson on Jan. 29. Asheville's first home match at the Crowne Plaza Tennis Center will be with North Carolina Central on Feb. 6 starting at 3 p.m.
