ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Western Carolina got goals from four different players en route to a 4-0 non-conference victory over homestanding UNC Asheville Friday afternoon at Greenwood Field.

The Catamounts (2-0-0) stayed perfect on the young season. The Bulldogs (0-2-0) battled and fired 10 shots on goal but simply could not get the ball into the back of the net. Asheville had six corner kicks to four for WCU.

The game started out fairly even with the Bulldogs controlling the run of the play for much of the first 15 minutes. However, WCU got on the board when Lindsay Carter connected on a hot from 25 yards at the 17:33 mark for a 1-0 Catamount lead.

The Cats added another eight minutes later when Kellie Oberholtzer sent a nice cross to Erin Hamilton who scored at 25:43 for a 2-0 lead.

Asheville had chances in the final 10 minutes, but Katy Beeler had a shot go just wide late in the half.

The Bulldogs continued to apply the pressure early in the second half. Beeler just missed scoring 15 minutes into the half when her shot from 10 yards out hit the cross bar and bounced away.

The Catamounts put the game away with two goals in a five-minute stretch. Laura Greg scored on a blast from 15 yards out at 68:50. Christine Kaznowski scored on a breakaway off a pass from Hamilton at 73:33 to pad the lead to 4-0.

Asheville had several chances in the final 10 minutes but WCU goalkeeper Caitlin Williams made both her saves in the second stanza to earn her first shutout of the season.

WCU held a 15-10 advantage in shots. Asheville goalkeeper Megan Dent made two saves for the home team.

The Bulldogs play next at Tennessee Tech on Sept. 5 starting at 3 p.m.
