CONWAY, S.C. - UNC Asheville led early but #4 Coastal Carolina stayed perfect in Big South Conference play with a resounding 18-2 win over the Bulldogs Friday night at Watson Stadium.

The Bulldogs (12-27, 5-14 BSC) scored two runs in the second inning to grab a 2-0 lead. Mike Vaughn led the inning off with a solo home run over the left-field wall for a 1-0 Asheville lead. It was Vaughn's fifth homer of the season.

Asheville scored later in the inning when Beau Zinman walked, went to second on a fielding error. He then scored on a Coastal throwing error to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.

Asheville starter David Ricker kept the Chanticleers (37-6, 15-0 BSC) in check in the first two innings before struggling in the third.  The junior right-hander walked three CCU hitters, hit a batter and allowed one hit as the home team manufactured three runs for a 3-2 lead.

A sacrifice fly in the fourth pushed the Coastal lead to 4-2. The Chanticleers picked up home runs from Rico Noel and Daniel Bowman to pad the margin to 7-2. CCU put the game out of reach against the Asheville bullpen to win its 25th straight BSC game.

The Bulldogs were limited to just five hits in the game by a trio of Coastal Carolina pitchers. Justin Schumer continued his good work at the plate by going 2-for-4. Freshman Robert McIntosh had a double in the fourth inning to increase his hitting streak to 11 games,

The teams play the second of their three-game series Saturday at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs will sent Ryan Dull (4-2) to the mound.
