Justin Schumer, Mike Vaughn and Jacob Edwards led the Asheville hitting parade with three hits each. Schumer went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a home run. Both Vaughn and Edwards went 3-for-4 at the plate.
Spear (2-1) picked the victory by scattering eight hits over seven innings of work. He allowed just one hit, striking out three and walking two.
The victory improved Asheville's record to 10-17 and 4-7 in the Big South Conference. The 10th victory of the year is one more than the Bulldogs had all of last season. The win also clinched the series against the Blue Hose. It's the first road league series win for Asheville in two years.
The Bulldogs jumped in front early. Danny Baatz singled with one out in the first inning. Schumer then hit his fourth home of the year, a two-run shot, for a 2-0 Asheville lead.
The visitors added a run in the second on Baatz's RBI-double for a 3-0 Bulldog margin. Asheville padded the lead in the third with three runs. Edwards' RBI-single pushed the lead to 4-0. Catlin Carter delivered a clutch two-run single to give the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead.
Asheville piled on two more runs in the fourth. Vaughn stroked an RBI-single. Robert McIntosh drove in another run on a PC error for an 8-0 Asheville lead.
The Blue Hose finally got a run in the fifth as Kenny Bryant drove in PC's first run with a RBI-single to make it 8-1.
Asheville tacked on two more runs in the ninth. Both Baatz and Schumer had RBI-singles to pad the lead to 10-1.
The home team scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to make the final score 10-3.
Asheville goes for its first Big South Conference sweep in three seasons when the Bulldogs take on Presbyterian College Sunday at 1 p.m.
