Schumer pitched eight innings. He allowed just one run on five hits, striking out five and walking two. The senior right-hander improved his record to 1-3.
Vaughn went 2-for-4 at the plate with two run-scoring doubles.
The Bulldogs trailed 1-0 before tying the game in the fourth inning. Ian Graham led off with a single and came home on Vaughn first run-scoring double to knot the game at 1-1.
Asheville grabbed the lead in the sixth as Graham singled with one out. Vaughn then doubled in Graham to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.
Asheville tacked on an insurance run in the seventh. C.A. Clayton opened the inning with a single. He was sacrificed to second by Beau Zinman. Danny Baatz drove in Clayton with a two-out RBI single down the right-field line for a 3-1 Bulldog lead.
Schumer came out after eight innings. Reliever David Ricker walked Jesse Harmon to start the inning. Ricker was replaced by Robert McIntosh. The freshman right-hander retired the next three Blue Hose hitters to earn his second save of the season.
The Bulldogs begin a six-game homestand at McCormick Field this Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. when Asheville hosts USC Upstate.
