ATLANTA - Georgia State scored 13 runs and pounded out 18 hits as the Panthers downed UNC Asheville 13-6 at Panther Field Monday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (4-6) battled back from an early 6-0 deficit to cut the lead to 6-5 before the defending Colonial Conference champions picked up seven runs in the final three innings to earn the victory.

The Panthers (5-6) jumped in front early as they scored six runs in the first three innings to lead 6-0. Asheville began the comeback in fifth inning when Cody Buch drove in Asheville's first run with a sacrifice fly.

In the sixth inning, the Bulldogs scored four times to cut the lead to 6-5. Danny Baatz delivered an RBI-single to drive in the first run of the inning. Justin Schumer followed with his first home run of the seaon, a two-run shot, to make it 6-4. Mike Vaughn scored later in the inning on a Panther error to make it a one-run game.

Georgia State answered back with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to push the lead to 10-5. They scored twice more in the seventh to pad the lead to 12-5. Beau Zinman scored in the eighth inning on an error for Asheville's final run of the game.

Freshman catcher Ian Graham led the Asheville offense with two hits.

The teams will finish their two-game series on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
