Women's Tennis' Leslie Smith Named Big South Player of Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) - Gardner-Webb's Evgeny Slesarev and UNC Asheville's Leslie have been named as the Big South Choice Hotels Tennis Players of the Week for matches played March 22-28, it was announced today by the Conference office.
Smith, a senior from Paris, France, recorded two singles wins and three doubles victories last week to lead the Bulldogs to Big South victories over Presbyterian College, Gardner-Webb and Liberty. She won her singles match at the No. 1 position against both PC and Gardner-Webb, defeating GWU's Erica White in a three-set thriller, including 14-12 in the third set. Smith and teammate Stephanie Schon won all three No. 1 doubles matches last week in convincing fashion and have won nine consecutive doubles matches.
Smith is enjoying a sensational senior season. She is 9-6 in singles play. Her and Stephanie Schon have a 12-3 doubles record.
The Bulldogs have two matches this week and both are at home. They'll host Winston-Salem State Wednesday at 2 p.m., followed by a key league match against Winthrop Saturday at Noon.
