The Lions (15-7) also received great starting pitcher from right-hander Greg Smith (3-2). He limited the Bulldogs to just four hits over six innings of work. Smith struck out six and walked just one.

Mars Hill opened the scoring in the third inning with three runs. Lewis drove in his first run with his first double to score Mike Kitt for a 1-0 Lions' lead. An RBI-single from Brandon Savoca drove in Lewis to make it 2-0. Kris Torrance doubled in the final run with a double just inside the right-field line.
Asheville's best chance to get to Smith came in the sixth inning. With one our, Danny Baatz singled. Robert McIntosh followed with a single to put runners on first and third but Smith was able to get a strikeout to end the inning.
It stayed 3-0 until the eighth inning when the Lions got some insurance. With runners on second and third one out, Michael Bueker singled to right-field to plate two runs for a 5-0 Mars Hill lead. Devin Presnell followed with a run-scoring double for a 6-0 margin.
Savoca drove in his second run of the run in the ninth with a sacrifice fly to score Smith to pad the lead to 7-0.
