Bulldog Baseball Falls to Western Carolina, 10-3

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina scored seven runs in the first inning en route to a 10-3 victory over UNC Asheville at Childress Field Tuesday evening.
The Bulldogs (4-9) lost for the fifth straight time but enjoyed a solid game at the plate from sophomore third baseman Cody Buch. He went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run-scoring triple.
Red-shirt junior pitcher Dan Weller pitched well in relief of starter Carson McLean (0-2). He tossed 3.1 innings of scoreless relief against the powerful Catamount line-up. Weller allowed just two hits with no walks and one strikeout.
WCU took charge of the game in the first inning as it sent 10 men to the plate, scoring seven times on six hits and taking advantage of a Bulldog error to lead 7-0.
Asheville got on the board in the fifth inning. Beau Zinman led off with a single. Buch then tripled to right field to score Zinman to make it 7-1. Freshman Ian Graham's run-scoring single plated Buch to cut the lead to 7-2.
The Catamounts (11-5) scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to pad the lead to 10-2.
The Bulldogs scored their final run in the ninth inning. C.A. Clayton singled, followed by a single from Leon Stimpson to put runners on first and second. Buch singled for his third hit of the game, scoring Clayton.
Asheville opens Big South Conference play Friday afternoon at Radford starting at 3 p.m.
