Women's Tennis Falls in Opener to Furman, 7-0

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Southern Conference power Furman captured a close doubles point and then picked up six wins in singles as the Paladins downed UNC Asheville, 7-0 in the opening match of the season for the Bulldog women's tennis team on Tuesday at the Mickel Tennis Center.
Asheville came very close to winning the doubles point. Britney Cloer and Nicole Schon won the #3 flight with an 8-5 victory over Furman's Brooke Mosteller and Susan Bitetti. Stephanie Schon and Lesle Smith fell to the Paladins #1 doubles team of Lauren Kline and Monica Arguello, 8-1. Asheville's #2 doubles team of Devon Cavanaugh and Louise Bottomley fought hard against Furman's Olivia Olivia and Jennifer Betts. The match went to a tie-breaker which Furman barely won at 8-6.

UNC Asheville will be back in action on Wednesday when the Bulldogs travel to Cullowhee to battle mountain rival Western Carolina at 2 p.m.
