Women's Basketball Downs Coastal Carolina, 59-48

Asheville (5-8, 1-0 BSC) was led by junior forward Lindsey Montgomery who recorded her second straight double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Chima Okoli added 11 points, while Kendall Shepard finished with 10 points and six assists.
Coastal Carolina (9-4, 0-1 BSC) was led by forward Sydnei Moss with a game-high 20 points.
"We played really good defense today," commented Bulldog coach Betsy Blose. "I thought we got contributions from everyone and beat a very good Coastal Carolina team. We had a great effort this afternoon."
The Bulldogs limited the Chanticleers to just 34 percent (19-of-56) shooting from the field.
Asheville had a solid day shooting as it went 18-of-38 from the field for 47 percent. The Bulldogs went 20-of-29 from the line. The home team also controlled the boards, 38-29. Asheville had 16 fast-break points to just three for the Chanticleers.
The Bulldogs took the lead early in the game and held on the rest of the way. Asheville led 20-18 late in the first but ended the half on an 8-2 run to lead 28-20 at halftime. Freshman guard Grace Blaylock sparked the run with two 3-pointers.
In the second half, the Bulldogs pushed the lead to 14 at 39-25 on a three-point play from Okoli before Coastal Carolina rallied.
The Chanticleers crept to 45-39 on a jumper from Olivia Irick with five minutes left. However, the Bulldogs would not let the visitors get any closer. Asheville went 7-of-8 from the charity stripe in the final two minutes.
Asheville hosts Charleston Southern Monday night at Justice Center starting at 7 p.m., while Coastal Carolina journeys to High Point on Monday for a 7 p.m. contest.
