Tennis Program Honored by ITA for Academic Work

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's tennis team plus seven tennis players were honored for their work in the classroom recently by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
The women's program was named as an ITA All-Academic team for the 2008-09 academic year. The Bulldogs maintained a team GPA over a 3.2 to earn the ITA academic honors for the second straight year.
The women's team had five individuals named as ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athletes. A tennis player must have a 3.5 GPA or above to be named as an All-Academic Scholar-Athlete. The five are Louise Bottomley, Devon Cavanaugh, Tania Mateva, Leslie Smith and Nicole Schon.
The men's team had two individuals named as ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athletes. They are Alex Appelt and Alexander Greer.
