LYNCHBURG, Va.-- Shawn Teufel threw seven shutout innings allowing just two hits and three walks while striking out nine as Liberty defeated UNC Asheville 9-0 in the first game of a three game Big South series on Friday.

UNC Asheville (6-27, 3-12 Big South) got a one out double by Justin Schumer in the sixth inning, two hits by Danny Baatz, and a ninth inning single by Austin Graham. Despite only getting four hits in the game, the Bulldogs left 10 men on base. Baatz went 2-for-4 and reached base three times in the game.

Liberty (22-10, 10-2 Big South) improves to 13-1 at home this season. Teufel (5-1) got all of the run support he would need in the fourth inning. Matt Williams led off with a double and scored on a single by Curran Redal.  Doug Bream doubled home Redal and scored on the third double of the inning by Cody Brown.

Bream who went 2-for-4 hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to score Redal who had been hit by a pitch.  It was Bream's sixth home run of the season.

Taylor Wohlwend took the loss for Asheville falling to 2-8. He threw 7.1 innings giving up seven runs on eight hits.  Six of the hits he allowed went for extra bases.

The Flames put the game away with four runs in the eighth inning. Redal who went 2-for-3 led off the inning with his sixth home run of the season. Errol Hollinger and Tyler Bream hit back-to-back doubles to make the score 7-0. After a walk to Brown and a single by Tim Rotola loaded the bases, Trey Wimmer singled home Hollinger and Bream for the final runs of the night. Seven of Liberty's 11 hits were extra base hits. The Flames left just three men on base in the game.

The teams will play a double header on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
