Women's Tennis Falls to Gardner-Webb, 5-2

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Runnin' Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb
posted a 5-2 victory over the UNC Asheville women's tennis team
Wednesday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex.
Asheville won the No. 2 singles match as Louise Bottomley and Devon Cavanaugh defeated Jenny Gomez and Tavanner Black, 8-6. However, GWU was victorious in the No. 1 and 3 matches and earned the doubles point.
The Bulldogs picked up two victories in the singles competition. Devon Cavanaugh notched a 6-0, 6-1 win over Rita Gouveia at No. 3. In the No. 6 match, Tania Mateva was victorious over Black, 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-2).
Asheville falls to 6-5 on the season and 1-2 in the Big South. The win improves Gardner-Webb to 8-8 and 1-3 in the Big South.
The Bulldogs return to action Thursday as they travel to Winston-Salem for a 2 p.m. match against Winston-Salem State.
