Bulldogs Suffer 5-2 Defeat at Gardner-Webb

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's tennis team fell
5-2 to Gardner-Webb in its Big South opener Wednesday afternoon at the
Webb Tennis Complex.
Asheville earned the doubles point by posting victories in two of the three doubles matches. Joe May and Nicolai Nonnenbroich defeated Andrew Veeder and Carlos Quijano 8-5 in the No. 2 match. The Bulldogs' pairing of Alexander Greer and Nathan White were victorious over Ryan Berenthal and Jamie Lawlor 9-7 in the No. 3 match. Asheville came close to sweeping the doubles competition, but GWU's Evgeny Slesarev and Rafael Altmayer notched a 9-8 (7-3) tiebreak win over Mauricio Correa and Jonas Broback at the No. 1 spot.
The Bulldogs only recorded one singles victory. In the No. 5 match, White defeated Lawlor, 7-5, 6-3.
Asheville falls to 2-10 on the season and 0-1 in the Big South. Gardner-Webb moves to 6-13 on the season and 1-2 in the Big South.
The Bulldogs return to action Thursday as they travel to Winston-Salem for a 2 p.m. match against Winston-Salem State.
