Men's Tennis Drops 4-3 Decision to UT Martin

CROSSVILLE, TENN. - The UNC Asheville men's tennis team dropped
a tough 4-3 decision to UT Martin on Saturday afternoon at the Varsity
Courts on the UTM campus.
The Bulldogs (1-7) earned the doubles point by capturing two of the three doubles matches. Mauricio Correa and Jonas Brobeck defeated Stephan Bruwer and Andrey Yesipov 8-5 in the No. 1 match. Niccolai Nonnenbroich and Joe May won a tight No. 2 match by beating the Skyhawks (2-1) pairing of Matthew Harris and Alfredo Krywacz, 9-8. The Skyhawks won the No. 3 match 8-5 as Shuntaro Tsukiyama and Petr Markov defeated Alexander Greer and Nathan White, 8-5.
In singles, Nonnebroich dropped a close match to Krywacz 7-5, 7-6. Brobeck picked up a three set victory over Markov 4-6, 6-1, 7-6. Alex Appelt earned his first singles win of his career by blanking Tsukiyama 6-0, 6-0. Alexander Greer had a good chance to give the Bulldogs the overall victory in the No. 5 match; however, he fell 6-4, 7-5 to Harris.
"It's always disappointing to lose a match 4-3," said Asheville assistant coach Tom Hand. "At the same time, it was nice to see Alex Appelt get his first singles victory. We need to take the positives from this match and move forward."
The Bulldogs play again tomorrow against Belmont in Nashville at 12 p.m.
