Women?s Basketball Picks Up, 67-58, Road Victory at Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C.?Lindsey Montgomery scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead three UNC Asheville players who scored in double-figures as the Bulldogs swept the season series with Presbyterian 67-58 on Saturday night.
Kendall Shepard scored 13 points and Ana Baker chipped in 11 points as all nine players who played for the Bulldogs scored in the game. Asheville improves to 9-15 on the season and 6-5 in the Big South. Presbyterian drops 3-19 and 0-10 in conference play.
Lea Smith led the Blue Hose with 20 points while Amanda Mills added 16 points. Presbyterian shot 37 percent from the floor and only got three points from its bench on the afternoon.
UNC Asheville led from start to finish building an 8-0 lead thanks to back-to-back three-pointers by Shepard and Baker. The Bulldogs would lead by as many as 12 points in the first half, 23-11, but Presbyterian would storm back. The Blue Hose used a 17-6 run over the next six and a half minutes to pull to within 29-28 with 1:17 left in the half. A Jessica Monroe free throw and a lay-up by Baker pushed the Asheville lead back to four points. Both teams traded baskets as the Bulldogs went into the locker room with a 34-30 lead.
Presbyterian began the second half with a 10-6 run to account for the game's only tie 40-40 at the 14:20 mark. A Basket by Kiana Rainey and a three-pointer by Shepard put the Dogs back up five points. Asheville extended the lead to 13 points, 61-48, capping a 21-8 run with 5:22 left to play.
The Bulldogs shot 48 percent in the game which was their second highest shooting percentage of the season. Rainey matched her career high with eight points. Monroe and Ipek Derici each had seven points.
Asheville will travel to Gardner-Webb on Monday night for a 7 p.m. game. The game will be broadcast on ESPN Radio 1310/970 WISE.
