Bulldogs Compete in First Indoor Event

Indoor Track and Field Squads Prep for Big South in Chapel Hill

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field team competed in the Dick Taylor Invitational Friday night at UNC Chapel Hill and posted some solid results.

 

“This was a good tune-up for us prior to the Big South Conference Championships in two weeks,” stated Bulldog coach Jesse Norman. “We had some good results against some great competition.”

 

The Bulldogs men's team did some good work in the field events on Friday. Daniel Corriher took first place in his division in the shot put with a throw of 13.47 meters. Keith Scruggs had a nice performance in the weight throw and finished in second place in his division with a throw of 13.77 meters.

 

Sprinter Dane Corriher took 13th place in the 400 meters and set a new PR with a time of 51.20. Duane Stepp also set a new PR in the 400 at a time of 52.13.

 

In distance events, freshman Sam Maynard finished 13th in the 800 with a time of 1:59. In the 3000 meters, Adam Matthews (9:05) and Kent Rankin (9:19) set PR's in that event.

 

On the women's side, Natalie Pearson took sixth in the 60 meters with a time of 7.80. She faced a very strong field in that event.

 

Katie Olert ran the 800 with a time of 2:36. In the 3000 meters, Emma Bussard (10:36) and Erin Putnam (11:34) both set new PR's.

 

Morgan Weeks finished with a time of 10.55 in the 60-meter hurdles.

 

“We had a lot of people set new PR's this weekend which shows we're improving,” commented Norman.

 

The Bulldogs finish the Indoor Track and Field season at the Big South Championships Feb. 26-28 at Clemson.
