Women's Basketball Downs Lafayette, 50-43

HARRISONBURG, VA. - Lindsey Montgomery scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as UNC Asheville defeated Lafayette 50-43 in the consolation game of the James Madison Invitational Wednesday night.
The Bulldogs improved their record to 4-8 and snapped a three-game losing streak.
UNC Asheville held Lafayette to a single field goal over a span of nearly six minutes in the first half while building a 12-point lead, 22-10, with 5:32 left. Lafayette connected on only one of four attempts from the field and turned the ball over four times while Asheville outscored the Leopards 13-2 during the stretch.
Lafayette got within nine (28-19) at halftime and was able to close within six, 47-41, with 1:56 left in the game. But the Leopards missed their next five attempts, the last four from three-point range, and were unable to get any closer.
Lindsey Thompson and Chioma Okoli added eight points each for the Bulldogs. Asheville controlled the boards 39-27
Asheville opens Big South Conference play on Saturday afternoon at home when the Bulldogs host Coastal Carolina at Justice Center starting at 2 p.m.
