10.06.2009 | Men's Soccer
The Bulldogs (4-6-2, 0-1-1) trailed 2-0 at halftime as Ben Reidmayer and Michael Czulinski scored for the Blue Hose (2-7-1, 1-2-1 BSC) in the opening half.
Asheville rallied in the second half to earn at least a point as the Bulldogs got a goal from Zachary Odum and Jake Hagedorn to knot the match. Hagedorn's goal came in the 84th minute.
"We could have easily have lost. We could have easily won and so the match ended up in a tie," commented Asheville coach Steve Cornish. "It was nice to see the lads fight back in the second half after being down 2-0, but we had chances in the first half to score. We have to play more consistent soccer, especially at home."
The Bulldogs controlled much of the match as they out-shot the Blue Hose 19-13 and had nine corner kicks to PC's four.
Trailing 2-1 late in the match, Asheville got the equalizer when Hagedorn hit a rocket from 25 yards out into the back of the net to tie the match at 2-2 at the 84:14 mark. It was the sophomore midfielder's team-leading third goal of the season.
The Bulldogs had a golden chance to win the game late in regulation but Bryan George's shot from three yards out hit the right goalpost and bounced out.
Each team had a few chances in the two overtime periods but could not get the game-winner.
PC broke on top in the 25th minute when Bobby Keskey sent a long pass to Riedmayer, who got behind the Bulldog defense. He raced down the field and slipped the ball past Asheville goalkeeper Lassi Hurskainen for a 1-0 Blue Hose lead.
Presbyterian added a second goal at 35:10. The Bulldogs did a poor job clearing, allowing Czulinski to claim a loose ball. He hit a shot that went into the air and then bounced through Hurskainen's legs for a 2-0 Blue Hose lead.
Asheville began to take control of play in the second half as it out-shot the visitors, 10-4. George sent a long pass to Odum who went one-on-one with PC goalkeeper Andre Wallingford. Odum tucked the ball into the right part of the goal for his second goal of the season, cutting the lead to 2-1 at 64:17.
The Bulldogs start a four-game road trip at Radford this Saturday night at 7 p.m. Presbyterian travels to High Point Saturday night, also at 7 p.m.
