Men's Soccer Edges Radford, 1-0
10.10.2009 | Men's Soccer
RADFORD, Va. - J.J. Morrow's second half goal gave UNC Asheville the lead, and the Bulldogs withstood Radford's 22 shots in a 1-0 Big South men's soccer win on Saturday night at Cupp Stadium.
The second half goal for Morrow and the Bulldogs (5-6-2, 1-1-1 Big South) was enough, even though the Highlanders (3-6-1, 0-3-1) launched 14 attempts at the net in the final period.
The victory was Asheville's first at Radford since a 1-0 victory during the 2003 season.
Morrow scored off Connor Holzinger's corner kick in the 56th minute, when he headed in a service from the far side through a host of Radford defenders, giving UNC Asheville all it needed for the win.
Radford outshot the Bulldogs 8-2 in the opening period, and 22-8 in the game. Lassi Hurskainen was forced to make six stops for the shutout, with three in each half.
Radford continues Big South play on Saturday with a 2 p.m. kickoff at Winthrop. UNC Asheville is on the road as well on Saturday, playing at VMI.
