BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Stephanie Benshoof was credited with a goal when a UNC Asheville player deflected her free kick into the net, and Gardner-Webb defeated the Bulldogs 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Greene-Harrison Field.  For the second consecutive outing, UNC Asheville (4-9-1, 1-6-0) dropped an evenly contested match in which the decisive score came on an own goal.  Gardner-Webb (11-7-0, 5-2-0) celebrated its Senior Day with the 100th victory of head coach Kevin Mounce's career.

The first half was a battle in the midfield as the teams felt one another out.  Each team attempted four shots but was unable to convert.  The lone goal of the match came in the 58th minute.  Benshoof sent a free kick into the box, which ultimately deflected off of a UNC Asheville player and into the goal.  It was the second tally of the year for the sophomore midfielder.  Both teams attempted eight total shots in the match, but the Bulldogs were silenced by Gardner-Webb keeper Chelsea Hearne.  The sophomore made five saves to earn the shutout.  It was the third match without a goal for UNC Asheville in its last four matches and seventh time in 13 matches this season.

The Bulldogs will look to get back in the win column next weekend, when they host Liberty (7-6-1, 4-0-1) on Friday and High Point (3-13-1, 2-3-1) on Sunday at Greenwood Field.
