Women's Soccer Falls to Charleston Southern 1-0
10.16.2009 | Women's Soccer
The Bulldogs (4-6-1, 1-3-0 BSC) out-shot the visitors 13-12 and had seven corner kicks to CSU's four but could not get the tying goal.
"We played pretty well today but just could not get the ball into the back of the net," stated Asheville coach Michele Cornish. "I thought our defense did a solid job against their high-scoring attack. However, we let them score once and that was one too many today."
The winning goal came in the 38th minute. The Bulldogs could not clear the ball away and Jen Vroman was able to get the ball. She sent a pass to Boyce who connected into the right-corner from 15 yards for her team-leading ninth goal of the season. The goal came at 38:59.
The victory for the Lady Buccaneers (10-4-1, 3-1-1 BSC) was their second straight and both have been by shutouts.
Asheville controlled play for part of the first half and just missed scoring first in the 20th minute when McKenna Stockhausen hit the cross bar. The ball went right to Katy Beeler. The junior ripped a shot from five yards out that Jena Lalich stopped.
In the second half, the Bulldogs had control for most of the half as they out-shot CSU 6-3. Asheville's best opportunity came from Meghan Bradham but her blast from 20 yards out went high.
Lalich earned the shutout with seven saves. She made six saves in the first half. Veronica Lazar had four saves for the Bulldogs.
