Bulldog Tennis Teams Play Well at ETSU Fall Classic

The Bulldogs were very impressive in women's doubles as the three doubles pairings won nine of nine matches.
Junior Leslie Smith and freshman Devon Cavanaugh won the A flight, sophomore Stephanie Schon and junior Louise Bottomley won the B flight, and sophomore Nicole Schon and junior Tania Mateva won the C flight.
“I was very pleased with our results in women's doubles,” said head coach Lise Gregory. “We were trying different doubles combinations and it is important to have a good blend of personality and game style in a doubles team.”
In women's singles, the Bulldogs won 14 of 18 matches and competed very well mentally.
Junior Leslie Smith won two of her three matches in the A flight.
Cavanaugh lost in the finals of the B flight. It was the first defeat for Cavanaugh in the fall season as she won the singles and doubles competitions at the Brevard Fall Classic. Overall, Cavanaugh is 11-1 in the fall.
Stephanie Schon won the C flight after winning 7-6 in the third set of the final match.
Bottomley reached the final of the D flight, Nicole Schon won the E flight, and Mateva won two of three matches in the F flight.
In the men's doubles competition, sophomore Innokentiy Sedov and freshman Alex Appelt won the C flight.
Sophomores Alexander Greer and Nathan White lost in the B flight finals and freshmen Jonas Brobeck and Nicolai Nonnebroich won two of three matches in the A flight.
The Bulldogs also played well in the men's singles competition. Nonnebroich, White, Appelt, and Sedov all reached the finals of their respective flights.
“I was also very pleased with the play on the men's side,” said Gregory. “We did not always play as well as we would have liked to, but we competed hard.”
The men's team returns to action on Oct. 3 at the South Carolina Invitational in
