ASHEVILLE, N.C.?Former UNC Asheville baseball players Alan DeRatt and Kevin Mattison are continuing their strong starts as pros. DeRatt won his first start on the season and is 2-0 for the Casper Ghosts while Mattison hit his first professional home run for the Jamestown Jammers.

DeRatt got his first professional start on Sunday, June 29, against the Orem Owls. He picked up his second win of the season to improve to 2-0 throwing five innings allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits. The Ghosts gave him plenty of run support in a 10-4 victory. Casper scored seven runs in the first inning to give DeRatt a cushion. DeRatt allowed an unearned run in the first and then retired nine of ten batters he faced in the second, third, and fourth innings. He allowed one walk and struck out five before turning the game over to the bullpen in the sixth inning.

DeRatt is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA. He has allowed eight hits in nine innings of work and has nine strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .222 against him. The Ghosts have tonight off before beginning a three-game series against the Ogden Raptors on Tuesday.

Mattison went 2-for-4 with a triple, a home run, and two RBI in Jamestown's 5-4 victory over Williamsport on June 22. The Jammers only had four hits in the game but scored five runs. Mattison led off the game with a triple and scored on an error. His two-run home run in the seventh gave the Jammers their final margin of victory.

Mattison has played in all 10 games for the Jammers. He is hitting .242 (8-for-33) with four RBI and has walked six times. He is 7-for-19 (.368) in road games but is just 1-for-14 (.071) in home games. Jamestown begins a three-game series against the Batavia Muckdogs tonight.
