Indoor Track to Compete at VMI Indoor Relays on Saturday

LEXINGTON, VA. ? The UNC Asheville men's and women's indoor track and field team will be back in action this Saturday morning at the VMI Indoor Relays at Cormack Fieldhouse.

 

Competition begins with the field events starting at 8:30 a.m. Sprint events begin at 10 a.m. with distance events starting at approximately 12:25 p.m.

 

Both teams had good efforts last weekend at the Liberty Invitational. Senior distance runner Jon Harmon finished first in the mile for the big highlight of the meet.

 

Other highlights included senior Omar Ahmad placed fourth in the triple jump. In the shot put and hammer throw, Daniel Corriher placed 12th in each event.

 

On the women's side, Emily Mase continued her good season with a fifth place finish in the 3000 meters. In the 800 meters, Katie Olert took 12th. Emily Becker finished 21st at a time of 2:43. Elizabeth Duncan finished eighth in the mile. Corrie Trotter came in 10th in the long jump.

 

“We're trying to make progress with each meet,” commented UNC Asheville coach Jesse Norman. “We want to be at our best in the Big South Conference meet at the end of the month and score more points than we did last year. I think we're moving in that direction.”
