Women's Basketball Rallies Past Johnson C, Smith 84-78

The Bulldogs (3-6) also got a great game from Kendall Shepard as the sophomore guard tallied 17 points. Jessica Monroe had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Ana Baker had nine assists and two steals.
The Golden Bulls (5-4) were led by Demetria Bell with a game-high 20 points. Wendy Stywalt finished with 18 points and eight rebounds. Janai Jackson contributed 12 points and six rebounds. Terran Quattlebaum added 10 points off the bench.
Okoli went 7-of-14 from the field, while Shepard finished 7-of-10.
“We battled hard today and a good win against a very good Johnson C. Smith club,” commented UNC Asheville coach Betsy Blose. “We had a hard time stopping them throughout the day but we kept plugging away and executed down the stretch.”

Stywalt scored inside to cut the lead to 77-76 before Shepard knocked down a 10-footer to pad the lead to 79-76. Two free throws from Demetria Bell narrowed the lead to 79-78 with 52 seconds remaining.

The Golden Bulldogs led 45-41 at halftime and quickly built on the lead after intermission. Leading 47-43, the visitors embarked on a 12-4 run to build a 59-47 lead with 15 minutes left.
The Bulldogs rallied and chipped away at the lead and finally tied the game at 64-64 with eight minutes remaining on an Okolia jumper.
Johnson C. Smith controlled most of the first half as Stywalt scored 11 points in the half as the Golden Bulls built a 13-point lead at 31-18 with five minutes to go.
