Augst & Williams Lead Men's Basketball to 83-65 Victory

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Reid Augst scored 16 points and John Williams added 13 points as UNC Asheville downed Lees-McRae 83-65 in exhibition men's basketball action at Justice Center Monday night.
The Bulldogs led from start to finish and had 14 different players score during the game. The Bobcats were led by Kyle Boardman's 16 points. Nick DeSchepper finished with 14 points.
"We did a lot of good things tonight but there are still plenty of things to work on," stated UNC Asheville coach Eddie Biedenbach. "I thought our guys played hard for 40 minutes and that was encouraging.
"We were sloppy in the end but at times we played some good basketball," added Biedenbach. "This is something to build on and we'll get better."
Asheville went on a 9-0 run midway through the first half to spring to an 18-11 lead. The Bulldogs led by as much as 10 in the opening half but the Bobcats hung around and trailed 36-27 at halftime.
The home team quickly put the game away in the second half as Asheville scored 12 straight points to race to a 49-31 lead. Williams and Jason Ridenhour led the charge as the duo scored six points each during the run.
The Bulldogs led by as many as 27 before Lees-McRae went on a late run against the Asheville reserves to close the game to 18.
Asheville dominated the inside game as it out-rebounded the Bobcats 52-31. Eric Stubbs led the Bulldog rebounding effort with nine boards in 12 minutes of play. Williams had eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Freshman guard J.P. Primm earned the start in the backcourt and finished with six assists.
Asheville's defense forced 21 turnovers. Freshman Chris Stephenson had four steals.
The Bulldogs open the regular season against Belmont Abbey on Friday, Nov. 14th at 7 p.m.
