STATESBORO, GA. ? The UNC Asheville women's basketball team fell behind 10-0 and spent the rest of the game battling hard before falling to homestanding Georgia Southern, 52-39 at Hanners Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.

 

The Bulldogs (0-4) played with only eight players as injuries have sidelined three UNC Asheville players in the first part of the season. The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Chioma Okoli with 12 points and seven rebounds.

 

Asheville did a great job on the boards on the day as it out-rebounded the Eagles, 45-22. The Bulldogs had 20 offensive rebounds. Lindsey Montgomery led the rebounding effort with nine boards.

 

Freshman Linda Aughburns added eight points, six rebounds and two steals.

 

The Bulldogs had a tough day on offense with 35 turnovers and shot 31 percent (15-of-49) from the field.

 

Georgia Southern (3-1) was led by Jessica Geiger with 12 points.

 

UNC Asheville is back at home Monday night when the Bulldogs play area foe Montreat starting at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on WISE (1310-AM) and video-streamed at www.bigsouthsports.com.
