ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? William & Mary went on a 13-0 run midway through the second half and defeated UNC Asheville 62-50 in the consolation game of the UNC Asheville Tip-Off Tournament Saturday afternoon.

 

The Bulldogs (0-2) were led by Chioma Okoli with 13 points and seven rebounds. The sophomore guard went 5-of-10 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. She earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

 

In the championship game, tournament MVP Corin Adams hit a lay-up with one minute to give Morgan State the lead for good as the Bears rallied for a 57-55 victory over Fairfield. Adams was joined on the all-tournament team by Erin Hawkins who finished with 10 points.

 

Adams finished with 14 points and six assists. She scored 12 points in the second half as Morgan State (2-0) rallied from a 31-22 halftime deficit. Fairfield (1-1) was led by Desiree Pina with 14 points. Baendu Lowenthal had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Stags as she earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

 

UNC Asheville led by eight in the first half before a late William & Mary run cut the lead to 27-26 at intermission.

 

The teams exchanged the lead four different times before a quick 6-0 run by Asheville put the Bulldogs in front 44-41 with 10 minutes left.

 

The home team went ice cold the rest of the game as the Tribe outscored the Bulldogs 21-6 over the final 10 minutes. Courtney Portell led the William & Mary run with three treys, including back-to-back three-pointers that triggered the 13-0 run.

 

Portell led the Tribe with 15 points. She also collected nine rebounds. Dani Kell, who made the all-tournament team, had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

 

The Bulldogs had a tough day shooting as they shot 35 percent from the field (20-of-58) and 41 percent (5-of-12) from the free throw line.

 

UNC Asheville plays next at Furman Tuesday night starting at 7 p.m.
