Boone, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country teams
finished 21st and 24th at the Blue Ridge Open on the campus of
Appalachian State University on Friday afternoon.
Freshman Sam Maynard led the way for the Bulldogs in the men's 8K gold race placing 79th with a time of 26:38. He was folllowed by Kent Rankin in 118th (27:20), Adam Matthews in 143rd (27:44), Jake Latini in 157th (28:01), Adam Vick in 195th (29:34), and John Barringer in 201st (29:50).
North Carolina, Queens University, Duke, Appalachian State, and Clemson took the top five spots of the men's team competition.
In the women's gold 5K, freshman Emma Bussard paced the Bulldogs with a 34th place finish in 19:11. Bussard has been the top finisher for UNC Asheville in every meet this season.
Bussard was followed by Michelle Busse in 146th (20:50), Katie Olert in 154th (21:08), Mackenzie Wheaton in 165th (21:24), Katherine Clark in 168th (21:31), Emily Becker in 169th (21:32), and Erin Putnam in 175th (21:48).
Clemson, High Point, Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State, and Davidson finished in the top five of the women's team competition.
The Bulldogs will have the next two weeks off as they prepare for the Big South Conference Meet on Nov. 1 at Liberty University.
