Women's Tennis Competes at UNC Wilmington

10.14.2008 | Women's Tennis

WILMINGTON, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville women's tennis team participated in the UNC Wilmington Invitational this past weekend.

The Bulldogs competed against players from Charleston Southern, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, North Carolina Central, Radford, UNC Greensboro, and UNC Wilmington.

The event was scheduled to last from Friday through Sunday, but Saturday's matches were cancelled due to heavy rain.  Rain was in the forecast for Sunday, so the Bulldogs returned to Asheville on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Nicole Schon played one of the better matches for UNC Asheville.  In the opening round match of the single's B flight, Schon defeated UNC Wilmington's Lauren Isenhour 7-5, 7-5 after falling behind 5-2 in the first set.

“I think the results from Friday were average,” said head coach Lise Gregory.  “We tried some new doubles teams that we not as successful as we hoped they would be.  That is the great thing about the fall; you try different doubles combinations so that when the spring rolls around you have the best possible teams at #1 through #3.”

The UNCW Invitational is the last fall event for the UNC Asheville women's tennis team.
