ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's tennis team opens the 2008 season Saturday afternoon against North Carolina A&T at the Asheville Racquet Club starting at 5 p.m. There is no admission charge.

First-year coach Lise Gregory will lead a young Bulldog squad into the year. Asheville has but one senior on its roster but has some talented younger players that should make UNC Asheville a comeptitive club in 2008.

The Bulldogs should be led this season by its lone senior in Whitney Abbott. Also returning for the 2008 campaign are sophomores Louise Bottomley, Tania Mateva and Leslie Smith. Three freshmen sisters should make an immediate impact for Asheville. They are Nicole, Stephanie and Vanessa Schon.

"We have a good group of players who work hard and are anxious to have a nice season," commented Gregory. "We're going to try to improve from one match to the next."
