Volleyball Open Chattanooga Tournament with Loss to Missouri State

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.? Kelsey Benorden recorded her third straight double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs but UNC Asheville fell 30-24, 30-17, 30-23 to Missouri State on the opening day of the Country Inn and Suites Challenge Friday night.
Benorden has led the Bulldogs (1-6) in kills in each of the past four matches she has played. Raquel Miotto led the Dogs defensively with 16 digs.
"The scores and the stats don't show it but I thought we played much better tonight," said Asheville head coach Julie Torbett. "Missouri State is an excellent team but we played the most consistent match of the season and I feel like we improved tonight. If we can continue to play as a unit we have a chance at more positive results on Saturday."
Alysha Greer added eight kills while Lauren Ficker had five kills, and Ashley Wrightenberry and Heather Burns each had four kills. The Bulldogs hit ,044 on the match but did out-block the Bears (5-2) with 8.5 blocks.
The Bulldogs will face host Chattanooga and Tennessee Tech on Saturday as they wrap up their third straight tournament weekend.
