Volleyball Falls to Kennesaw State in Five Close Games

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Kennesaw State had four players in double figures in kills as the Owls rallied past UNC Asheville, 3-2 in the second round of the UNC Asheville Volleyball Classic Saturday afternoon. KSU won the match, 30-26, 25-30, 22-30, 30-23, 15-12.
The Bulldogs (0-5) were led by freshman Kelsey Benorden who enjoyed a sensational match with 20 kills and 10 digs. Ashley Wrightenberry and Lauren Ficker finished with 10 kills each. Raquel Miotto led the defense with 20 digs.
KSU (2-5) was led by Asjia Stokes with 15 kills as she hit .444 for the match. Lindsey Plotner chipped in 13 kills and four blocks. Jenny Black and Sabrita Gulley contributed 11 kills apiece. Selina O'Leary had 20 digs, while Black added 15 digs.
The Owls won a close first game, 30-26 before the Bulldogs came back to win the second game, 30-25 as Asheville hit .297 for the game and took advantage of 10 KSU hitting errors.
The Bulldogs came out roaring in the third game and raced to a 23-9 lead. Benorden had seven kills on 10 swings in the game. KSU rallied in the final part of the game before Asheville won, 30-22.
In the fourth game, the Owls kept the momentum going from the end of the third game and led from start to finish, 30-23.
In the decisive fifth game, the Bulldogs built leads to 4-1 and 7-4 but could now finish KSU off. Plotner had four kills in the final game, including two of the Owls final three points.
UNC Asheville finishes up the tournament against USC Upstate at 6 p.m., while KSU takes on Western Carolina at approximately 4 p.m.
