ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville Volleyball team heads to the state of Alabama this weekend to take part in the Alabama State Invitational. The Bulldogs play two matches on Friday and Saturday and hope to build on the momentum that they built after a nice win on Tuesday night.

UNC Asheville (2-8) pulled out a hard-fought victory over North Carolina Central Tuesday night at Justice Center. The Bulldogs lost the first game, 30-26 but roared back to win the next three games against an Eagle squad that owned a win over N.C. State this season. Freshman Kelsey Benorden recorded a career-high 24 kills in the win.

Asheville meets Alabama State Friday at 9 a.m., followed by a match with Mississippi Valley State at 5 p.m. On Saturday, the Bulldogs take on Alabama A&M at 11:30 a.m. and face Southern at 2:30 p.m.

“We don't know a lot about the teams we're playing this weekend but right now we're just worried about how we play,” explained head coach Julie Torbett. “We made some progress last weekend at Chattanooga even though we lost all three of our matches. I liked the way we competed and improved as the match went on against North Carolina Central. We found a way to win against a good team and that can only make us better.”

Benorden has done a great job in her rookie year for the Bulldogs as she leads the team in kills with a 3.65 average. Sophomore libero Raquel Miotto leads Asheville in digs with a 4.68 mark.
