ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Junior forward Robyn Busha scored twice and added an assist as UNC Asheville downed Mars Hill, 3-1 in exhibition women's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Greenwood Field.

The Bulldogs controlled most of the match as they outshot the visiting Lions, 22-6. However, MHC goalkeeper Shannon Higgins made 10 saves to keep the Lions in the game.

"Overall, I was really pleased at how we played," stated UNC Asheville coach Michele Cornish. "We've only had a few days of practice but we did some good things out on the field today, especially going forward."

Busha opened the scoring early in the match when she took a pass from Joy Haynes and scored at the 3:31 mark.

Asheville managed to get some more shots on goal but Higgins made some spectacular saves to keep the Bulldogs in front by just one goal.

Finally in the second period, Busha sent a pass to Sara Marie Holland who tallied at the 48:51 mark on a five-yard shot for a 2-0 lead.

Mars Hill came right back and got back in the match when freshman forward Abby Martin scored on a shot from 15 yards out to narrow the lead at 2-1 in the 52nd minute.

The Bulldogs sealed the win 10 minutes later when Mary Ashley McCullough sent a perfect feed to Busha who tallied from 10 yards to make it 3-1.

UNC Asheville opens the season against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 2, while Mars Hill opens the season against Bethel College in a tournament at Tusculum on Aug. 25th.
