Women's Soccer Opens Season with Overtime Victory

Robyn Busha scored 34 seconds into overtime as UNC Asheville opened the 2007 season with a thrilling 1-0 victory over visiting Tennessee Tech at Greenwood Field Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (1-0-0) won their season opener for the third straight season, while the Golden Eagles fell to 0-2 on the year.
"This was a nice victory," stated UNC Asheville coach Michele Cornish. "I like the way we battled all day long and just found a way to get a great win. Our freshmen played very well."
The teams battled for 90 minutes before the Bulldogs quickly ended the match. Freshman Dana Sroka sent a pass to Busha who was all alone in front of the goal. She tapped the ball into a wide open goal for a 1-0 victory. It was Busha's 21st career goal and that goal moved her into fifth place on the school's all-time career goals list.
Each team had chances in the first half. UNC Asheville's Shoshana Fried hit the cross bar midway through the half. TTU's Brianne Lankford hit the cross bar late in the opening half.
The Bulldogs controlled play in the first half as they outshot the Golden Eagles, 6-3. TTU goalkeeper Loretta McNamee made three saves in the first half. In the second half, the Golden Eagles had the better of play as Asheville goalkeeper Shanna Brown made two saves.
UNC Asheville plays next Wednesday afternoon at Greenwood Field when it hosts Western Carolina at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast tape-delay on Asheville Educational Television Channel 16 and can be seen live on the internet at bigsouthsports.com.
