Cold Shooting Hurts Bulldogs in Loss at ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.? UNC Asheville suffered through its worst shooting game of the season as the Bulldogs shot 22 percent from the floor and seven percent from three point range in a 72-53 loss at East Tennessee State on Saturday.

 

Kyla Jones led the Bulldogs (4-4) with 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Jessica Monroe just missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. Ana baker added nine points and six steals for UNC Asheville which scored it fewest points of the season.

 

ETSU (3-3) went on a 10-0 run after Asheville scored the first two points of the game and extended its lead to 22-7 at the under 12 media timeout. Asheville went on an 10-1 run to trim the lead to 23-17 with 7:44 left in the first half. The Bucs out-scored the Dogs 13-5 the rest of the half to take a 36-23 lead into the locker room.

 

ETSU scored the first six points of the second half to build a 20 point lead and Asheville never got closer than 15 points the rest of the way.

 

Siarre Evans led the Bucs with 13 points and eight rebounds. Michele DeVault and Kelly Turman added 11 points each.

 

The Bucs held a 30-19 rebounding advantage and an 11-3 edge in second chance points at halftime. The Dogs did a much better job in the second half out rebounding ETSU 28-19. The

 

Bucs shot 43 percent from the floor and were 3-for-6 from long range. ETSU had 13 blocked shots marking the second straight game Asheville opponents have had double figure blocks. Asheville was just 1-for-13 from three-point range. The Bulldogs went 22-for-31 (71 percent) from the free throw line while the Bucs were 15-for-23 (65 percent) from the stripe.

 

Asheville will take a break for exams before returning to the court next Saturday at 2 p.m. against Presbyterian at the Justice Center. The game will be broadcast on Asheville Educational Television and on AM-1310 WISE.
