CHARLESTON, S.C. ? Third-seeded High Point got a goal from freshman Sara Rager in the 79th minute as the Panthers advanced to the Big South Conference championship game with a 1-0 win over UNC Asheville in the semifinals of the tournament at Blackbaud Stadium.

The seventh-seeded Bulldogs (4-14) were trying to make a Cinderella run to the league title game and defend their championship but the Panthers (11-7-2) were the better team on the night. High Point out-shot Asheville, 20-8 and had nine corner-kicks to just one for the Bulldogs.

Asheville goalkeeper Veronica Lazar had another spectacular match with seven saves as she kept the Bulldogs in the match.

“We did not deserve to win this game,” stated UNC Asheville coach Michele Cornish. “We were outplayed from start to finish.  We had chances here and there, but didn't finish them.”

The Bulldogs hung in there for most of the match but Rager headed in a shot at 79:52 to give the Panthers the winning goal.

Asheville got some offense going late in the game but shots from Kate Barrow and Meagan Bradham were wide of the goal.
