ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville women's soccer team will celebrate Senior Day this Wednesday afternoon when the Bulldogs host Liberty University in the final home game of the season at Greenwood Field starting at 4 p.m.

Prior to the match, UNC Asheville will honor its four seniors playing their final home match at Greenwood Field. The four seniors are defender Kate Barrow, midfielder Shoshana Fried, forward Joy Haynes and defender Mary Ashley McCullough. The four have led the Bulldogs to two Big South Conference regular-season titles, one Big South Tournament and one trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The Bulldogs (3-12-0, 1-5-0) are hoping to build on an impressive performance at VMI Sunday afternoon. Asheville ended a six-game losing streak with an impressive 5-0 victory over the Keydets. Junior forward Robyn Busha scored the first three goals of the match for her third career hat trick. She now leads Asheville in scoring with seven goals and 17 points. Kate Barrow and Katy Beeler rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs.

“We played very well at VMI on Saturday and this time we finished our scoring chances when we had the opportunity to score,” stated UNC Asheville coach Michele Cornish. “We've been playing good soccer lately but haven't been scoring. On Sunday, we finally put it all together against a solid VMI team that had been playing very well.

Liberty is a good team and we always have tough matches against them,” added Cornish. “Hopefully, we can continue to play well against Liberty.”

Cornish is looking forward to honoring the four seniors on Wednesday.

“It seems like just yesterday we were recruiting these players and now they're playing their final home game,” commented Cornish. “The four have done a great job for us during their career. We're going to miss all four of them.”

After the Liberty match, UNC Asheville begins preparations for defending its Big South Conference Tournament title. This year's championship will be held at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.C.

“We haven't had the year we had hoped to have,” explained Cornish. “However, our league is very balanced. We've been in every match with a chance to win. If we can play good soccer in the tournament, you never know what can happen.”
