Volleyball Sweeps to Wins over Alabama A&M & Southern

ROCK HILL, S.C.?UNC Asheville recorded nine team blocks as Ashley Wrightenberry and Rachel Guinane each had five blocks a piece but Winthrop came up with a 30-26, 30-17, 20-30, 30-20 victory on Friday night.

 

Kelsey Benroden led the Bulldogs (6-18, 0-7 Big South) with 11 kills, Wrightenberry added 10 kills and Raquel Miotto had 20 digs to lead Asheville offensively.

 

Kellie Sellers had a career best 23 kills to lead three Winthrop (12-9, 7-0 Big South) players in double-figures. Tara Toepke had 16 kills and 18 digs while Kelly Taylor added 14 kills as the Eagles hit .238 on the match.

 

Winthrop out-dug UNC Asheville 76-56 and had 27 more kills than the Bulldogs. Asheville did hold a 9-4 blocking advantage but hit just .134 in the match.

 

Asheville will travel to High Point on Saturday for a 2 p.m. match while Winthrop hosts Presbyterian at  2 p.m.
