Men's Soccer Falls 1-0 at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, SC ? The Wofford College men's soccer team picked up a 1-0 shutout win over UNC Asheville on Monday night. The Terriers had a goal by Andrew Eppelsheimer and Joey Taylor had three saves in the shutout. Wofford is 3-8-1 overall and UNC Asheville is 2-9-1 overall.
In the first half, the play was even. The Terrier's first shot was by Moe Kelli, but it was saved by UNC Asheville's Phillip Horner. Wofford's James Fogartie had a header that was saved at the 28 minute mark, while three minutes later UNC Asheville's Ryan Haupt hit the left post with a shot.
Wofford came out strong in the second half, getting three solids chances in the first five minutes of play. The shots included a ball wide to the right by Moe Kelli and a header that went wide by Armin Kinigadner.
At the 72:07 mark, the stalemate was broken when Armin Kinigadner crossed the ball into the box and Andrew Eppelsheimer put it in the right corner for the goal. It was the first collegiate goal for the freshman.
As time wound down in the second half, the Bulldogs had a shot by Ryan Haupt go wide. UNC Asheville was unable to connect on several strong crosses in the final three minutes.
Wofford had a thirteen to nine lead on shots. UNC Asheville had five corner kicks, all in the second half. The Bulldogs were called for two offsides.
For the Terriers, goalie Joey Taylor had three saves and recorded his sixth career shutout and third this season. Bulldog's goalie Phillip Horner had six saves and one goal against. The game was a make-up game for a contest postponed on September 14 due to lightning.
Asheville will return to Big South action on Thursday at it hosts Liberty in a 4 p.m. match.
