ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville pick up wins in doubles and at number one singles but could not hold as Presbyterian College won five of the six singles points to win 5-2 at the Asheville Racquet Club on Saturday.
Leslie Smith earned a 7-6, 6-3 victory at number one singles over Abby Diminich. Louise Bottomley, Rachel Rhoney, and Whitney Abbott each forced three set matches but came up short in the final sets.
The Bulldogs (0-3) won the doubles point as Rhoney and Bottomley took a 9-8 win at number one and Tania Mateva and Smith won 8-5 at number two.
"The girls are getting better each week we compete," said Asheville head coach Larry Hubbard. "Leslie Smith and Louise Bottomley are playing extremely well for freshmen and are learning to compete a very high level, very early in their development. The future looks very bright in the years ahead as both players will only get better with experience."
