ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The Class A Asheville Tourists rallied from an early deficit to down UNC Asheville, 9-5 in the teams annual exhibition game Tuesday night at McCormick Field.
The Bulldogs were led at the plate by Kevin Mattison and J.K. Whited. Mattison went 2-for-3 with a two-run triple. Whited went 2-for-2 with two doubles.
UNC Asheville sent nine men to the plate in the second inning and scored four runs to lead 4-0. Mattison had the big hit of the inning with a two-run triple. Steve Burnich and Alan DeRatt added RBI in the inning as Burnich just missed a home run with a long double.
The Bulldogs also scored in the sixth inning when Rob Vernon delived a RBI-single.
UNC Asheville plays on Wednesday night at UNC Greensboro starting at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs then come home and host Charleston Southern in a key Big South Conference series starting on Friday at 3 p.m.
