ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's tennis team picked up five singles victories and the doubles point en route to a 6-1 non-conference win over mountain rival Western Carolina at the UNCA Tennis Center Thursday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (6-2) were able to get the doubles point when the number one doubles team of Natasha Lucki and Rachel Rhoney edged the Lady Catamounts duo of Tricia Hanson and Katherine Ptak, 9-8.
"I'm really proud of our team to pick up a big win over Western Carolina," stated UNC Asheville coach Chase Hodges. "It was pretty cold and windy today but our team really battled the elements well.
"The key today was getting the doubles point," added Hodges. "I think that gave us some momentum for singles play."
