CONWAY, S.C. - CONWAY, S.C. - UNC Asheville never got its offense going and had its two-game winning streak come to an end at Kimbel Arena Monday night as Coastal Carolina downed the Bulldogs, 70-54

The Bulldogs (7-13, 4-5 BSC) were led by sophomore guard K.J. Garland's season-high 19 points. Bryan McCullough added 11 points. Chad Mohn

The Chanticleers (7-13, 4-4 BSC) had four players in double figures, led by Pele Paelay with 16 points. Adrian Gross chipped in 12 points, all in the second half.

UNCA struggled from the field the entire night. The Bulldogs were 21-of-65 from the field for 32 percent. Asheville was 4-of-24 from the 3-point line at 16.7 percent.

Coastal Carolina ended UNCA's dominance on the boards. The Bulldogs had outrebounded their last five opponents but the Chanticleers outrebounded UNCA, 58-38. CCU had 19 offensive rebounds to just nine for the Bulldogs.

"We got outplayed tonight," commented Asheville head coach Eddie Biedenbach. "We played hard but not hard enough. Coastal Carolina seemed to get every loose ball and just outhustled us most of the night."

Trailing 32-25 at halftime, the Bulldogs missed their first five shots as Coastal scored eight quick points to bolt to a 40-25 lead at the 17:00 mark. Garland finally scored to stop the Chants' run at 40-27.

UNCA crept to within nine at 44-35 as Steven Rush hit back-to-back three-pointers. The Bulldogs had two more chances to get closer but came up short each time. The Chanticleers got baskets from Paelay to push the lead back to 48-35. The Bulldogs could get no closer than 10 the rest of the game as the Chanticleers downed Asheville for the fourth straight year at Kimbel Arena.

The Bulldogs struggled from the field in the first half as they shot 33 percent, going 10-for-30. Asheville missed its first seven 3-point attempts before Omar Collington hit a trey right before the half ended to cut the lead to 32-25.

UNC Asheville will head home to play High Point Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. After the High Point contest, the Bulldogs are back on the road for three straight contests starting at Winthrop on Feb. 7.
